Course Description: This course was designed to help you advance in your language proficiency development. The emphasis will be on written and oral communication.Taught in Spanish, presents an historical and cultural overview of Hispanic Latin America from its pre-Columbian origins to the present through works of literature, art, music, and videos.
Course Narrative: Throughout this course I had the opportunity of learning more about the geography, politics, culture, and the history of the countries all over Latin America and Central America. We often watched videos that helped me understand more about the topics in the book and had discussions as a group to help clarify any questions Ihad. The professor often assigned written assignments based on topics discussed in class or in a film to test our critical thinking skills and language skills. This course helped me understand better more about the history of Latin America, particularly the way that all the countries slowly changed into what they are now. All the assignments, tests, group discussions, and presentations helped me learn so much interesting information about Latin America. It was an amazing experience to learn how different tribes were the first people to create their cities, temples, traditions, and many other things in different countries of Latin America. At the end of the course, we had the opportunity to do a presentation on any topic of our choice, but as long as it was related to the content we learned during class. Overall, this course helped me expand my knowledge on the very few facts I knew about Latin America and all the cultures that vary within each country. Something that we spent a lot of time debating was whether Latin America was somehow untied through our culture or language. Ultimately, this course fulfills the MLO 3 for literary and cultural knowledge, all the readings were based on the civilizations and cultures of the countries in Latin America.
