Course Description:Lifespan Development: Transition and Change surveys theoretical perspectives of human growth and development across the life span and draws from current social science research in examining the complex array of social, psychological, and cultural forces that combine to determine each individual's life course. Emphasizes applications to real world settings and successful passage through the life course.
Course Narrative: This course focused on explaining human growth and development based on the many theories that have been proven through social science research. Through lectures and discussions, we were able to learn about the theories applied to human development, from the moment we are in our mothers' womb up until we grow old and eventually pass away. After reading specific chapters from our assigned textbook, we use the information within the book and applied it to real world scenarios to test our knowledge and understanding. Something that really interests me was learning about the type of experiments adults perform on children in order to learn about the development of children. During class, we also focused on the completing our journals where we would respond to certain questions related to the class lecture, we spent time thinking about our infancy, childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood. This course was the only Human Development course I took to complete my education minor and where I was able to familiarize with many theories that can not only help us understand our own development and growth, but learn about the changes that come with each face in our lives, whether is in our childhood, adolescence or adulthood.
