Course Description: Examines issues, problems, and solutions to equitable schooling in a pluralistic society. Viewing schools as social institutions that transform the cultural and political dynamics of society. The course focuses on history, politics, and theories of education for culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
Course Narrative:In this course we covered many controversial topics that surround the educational system. We covered the history of education within the U.S history, learned how the system has somehow changed or evolve through out the years. I truly enjoyed learning about the different aspects of education, growing up I wasn't aware of all the issues that are involved in the education system. Also, we conducted student interviews where each student had the opportunity to share their personal life with the entire class. Even though it was the second time doing the interview, it was different considering the amount of students in the class and simply feeling uncomfortable sharing my life with others. This was a great experience because we had the opportunity to get know each other more personally and may even find similarities with others that we didn't know we had. Overall, this course was amazing and filled with passionate students who truly want to make positive changes in the educational system. This was the second course I took to continue completing my education minor.
